Best Solar Companies in Montana

The best solar company for your home designs for your property, installs with its own crew, and still answers the phone years after the job.

How to choose a solar company in Montana

Ask six questions. The installer worth hiring answers every one of them with proof, and you can check the answers before you sign anything.

Here is how Northstone answers each, so you can hold us to the same standard as everyone else you call.

Six checks, and how we measure up

Do they design for your property?

A quote drawn from a satellite photo guesses at your roof. We come out, get on it and measure it, size the system from twelve months of your real bills, and show you what it will produce and when it pays for itself before you order a thing.

Do they use their own crew?

Our own crew designs and installs every system and looks after it afterward, so the people on your roof are the people who answer when you call.

What equipment do they install?

We are Enphase specialists. A microinverter under each panel means one shaded or snow-covered panel does not pull down the rest, and the app shows you what every panel makes.

What warranty do they give?

Ask whether it covers the work as well as the parts. With Northstone, labor and every piece of equipment carry a warranty, and your terms are in the proposal in writing.

How long have they been installing here?

Over 100 systems across northwest Montana since 2017: homes in Whitefish and Kalispell, ranches, a hardware store, and off-grid cabins past the end of the power lines.

What do their customers say?

Look for reviews that mention the crew and the service after the job. Every one of our Google reviews is five stars, and two of them are below.

“Thomas and Curran were great to work with. We had 3 quotes. Northstone beat the others hands down! The other 2 did their quotes from satalite images. Thomas and Curran climbed all over the roof and got it just right. The installation was fun for us!! Hot for them. Everyone who worked at our sight was great! Super polite and very neat. They helped us set up an energy loan which made the purchase possible. We love it. Now for the fun of seeing the sun and panels work their magic. Using the app is a little addictive! When we've had any questions, it's a quick response and a solution . These guys are great. So glad we decided to work with them. Don't hesitate. Let's use the sun and save our planet!”

“Very pro, very knowledgeable and no nonsense. It was so nice to work with a pro solar installation team that returned phone calls, showed up when they said they would, and did a great job on time and on budget. The team is all local which was important to us and our local business. We would work with them again any day and no hesitation recommending them!”

Local or national installer?

A local installer knows how Flathead Electric, Lincoln Electric and Mission Valley Power connect a system, designs for Montana snow and short winter days, and is a short drive away when you need service. That is how we work.

Questions about Montana solar companies

Which solar company has the best reputation in Montana?

Look for an installer with years of local work, reviews that mention the crew by name and the service after the install, and customers who compared several quotes before choosing. Northstone has installed over 100 systems in northwest Montana since 2017, and every one of its Google reviews is five stars.

Is solar worth it in Montana?

For most homes with a good roof, yes. Your system makes electricity at a fixed cost while utility rates keep rising, and once it is paid off the power it makes is free. Our guide to whether solar is worth it in Montana lays out the 2026 numbers.

Is there still a 30% solar tax credit in 2026?

Not for homes. The federal residential credit ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. Montana’s property-tax exemption and the state’s 3.5% clean-energy loan still stand, and business and farm projects have their own federal options. Our incentives guide lists each program with the date we checked it.

How much does solar cost in Montana?

Every system is designed for one property, so the honest number comes from your own bills and roof. We put it in writing, with the production and the payback, at a free consultation before anything is ordered.
